It began in 202 BC and ended in 220 AD.

The trade routes brought new goods and metals to China and allowed the Chinese to trade silk and other products with the West. It also allowed China to spread Buddhism because they were able to talk to people and convince them to change religions. China was able to gain new products that enabled them to grow. They also gained new ideas that initially changed the way they saw things.
