We’re most likely to RELATE to others with whom we share personal characteristics, such as values, beliefs, age, and sex.

We tend to feel especially POSITIVE towards subtle things that we associate with OURSELVES, such as names, beliefs, hometowns, alma maters.

“Names have subtle, but powerful influences on major life decisions. People’s natural tendency is to be attracted to things that remind them of themselves.” -When is your name your game? Chapter 30

POINTING OUT similarities can also be the first step to resolving potentially ugly conflicts with co-workers and even neighbors.

Use similarities with people to your ADVANTAGE by bringing those to the surface to your discussions before making your request or presentation.

Be GENUINE in sharing
similarities.
