INCLINED PLANE

  • Flat surface
  • When slanted, move objects
  • Ex: ramps, staircases

WEDGE

  • A type of inclined plane
  • Pushes things apart
  • Edge of a smooth surface
  • Ex: axe, knife

SCREW

  • Inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder
  • Holds things together
  • Every turn helps move a piece of metal through an object

LEVER

  • Pries things loose
  • An arm that pivots against fulcrum
  • Ex: seesaw, crowbar
  • 3 types: 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Class-depends where fulcrum is

WHEEL & AXLE

  • Many levers put together
  • Carries objects through a distance
  • Wheel turns axle causing movement

  • Similiar to a wheel & axle
  • Cord wraps around wheel
  • Cord moves direction
  • Raise and lower objects
  • Ex: flagpole
