SIMPLE MACHINES

WHAT ARE SIMPLE MACHINES❓

Simple machines consist of levers, pulleys ⛓ , inclined planes, wheel & axles, wedges, and gears. ⚙

A lever has 3️⃣ classes.

LEVER 1️⃣

  • The fulcrum is placed between the load and effort.
  • ex: seesaw, crowbar, etc.

Lever 2️⃣

  • The load is in between the fulcrum and the effort.
  • ex: doors, staplers, can openers, & wheelbarrows.

Lever 3️⃣

  • The effort is between the load and the fulcrum.
  • ex: fishing rods, arms, a hoe 👯 , baseball bat, & broom.

Pulley ⛓

A pulley uses a wheel and rope. One end of the rope is connected to the load, the other end is pulled through the wheel.

Inclined plane

  • A flat, surface tilted at an angle.
  • One end is higher than the other.
  • Used for raising or lowering loads.

WHEEL & AXLE

  • They are attached so that they can rotate.
  • A force is transferred from one another.

WEDGE ⚒

  • A triangular shaped tool.
  • It is used to push objects apart.

Gear ⚙

  • a set of toothed wheels that work together.
  • The teeth have to fit into each other.
