PRESENTATION OUTLINE
SIR GAWAIN AND THE GREEN KNIGHT
The Green Knight enters King Arthur's Court and Challenges him to a game. Both men will strike the other with the Green Knights axe. One man or King Arthur will go first, but after, he must find the Green Knight one year and one day later to get a return blow.
Before King Arthur can accept the fight Sir Gawain steps forward to fight in his place. Sir Gawain picked up the Green Knights axe and cut off his head. The Green Knight then picked up his head and rode off.
The Lady of the Castle tries to seduce Sir Gawain but he refuses every time except for three kisses. She then offers Sir Gawain a magic green sash, which she says will prevent him from dying. He takes the sash from her not wanting to be killed by the Green Knight.
Sir Gawain searched for the Green Chapel, instead he found the Green Knight sharpening his axe. Sir Gawain then stood in front of him and awaited his death. But when the Green Knight brought the axe down Sir Gawain flinched and got out of the way.
Sir Gawain then demanded that the Green Knight hit him again, and that he would not flinch. So the Green Knight raised his axe and brought it down on Sir Gawain's neck, but all it did is cut him. The Green Knight explained to Sir Gawain that he thought he was the finest knight and that he was testing him. Sir Gawain confessed his sin of taking the sash from the Green Knights wife. The Green Knight said he was forgiven and they part ways.
