King Arthur and his court were gathered for a New Year's feast when the GREEN KNIGHT entered.

The GREEN KNIGHT entered with a challenge, saying that any man in the court could accept it.
He wanted someone the chop off his head and in a year and a day he would return the favor.

Sir Gawain accepts the challenge and does as the GREEN KNIGHT asks and chops off his opponents head.

On his journey to find the GREEN KNIGHT Sir Gawain comes across a castle controlled by Lord Bertilak. Sir Gawain stays as a guest in the castle.

Lord Bertilak's wife constantly tries to seduce Sir Gawain. But, because of his HONOR, he only accepts a kiss.

The wife seeks a token of love from Sir Gawain but he won't give one to her. She mentions a GREEN GIRDLE she has that protects her from defeat. Sir Gawain accepts that.

Sir Gawain continues his journey to the GREEN CHAPEL on New Year's Day. He is wearing the GREEN GIRDLE.

Sir Gawain finds the chapel and kneels to complete the challenge. He flinches. The GREEN KNIGHT calls him a coward.

He does not slice Sir Gawain's head hard. This revealing his identity to Sir Gawain. The GREEN KNIGHT is indeed Lord Bertilak. Everything that happened in the castle was a huge test.

In the end Sir Gawain feels terrible. His honor was tested.
