HOW DID HE RISE TO POWER?
When Neville Chamberlain had lost the confidence of the Conservative Party, he had to resign. The candidates for the next prime minister were Lord Halifax and Winston Churchill, but Halifax turned down the offer.

HOW DID HE MAINTAIN CONTROL?

  • Resisted Nazi forces and domination, leading Britan through war
  • Made a coalation cabinet with Labor, Liberal, and Conservative leaders
  • Worked with Franklin D. Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin
  • Since he was seen as a war-time leader, he was defeated in 1945 election
  • Became prime minister in Oct. 1951, and made reforms, stopping rebellions
