What is it?

The skeletal system is the framework of the body. It is made up of bones and other connective tissues.

PARTS

  • An adult body is made up of 206 bones
  • 2 major regions: axial and appendicular

The purpose is to support the body and protect your internal organs. (Example: Ribs protect the lungs and heart)

WHAT DISEASES/CONDITIONS CAN AFFECT THE SYSTEM?

  • Arthritis (autoimmune)- usually occurs in hands
  • Osteoperosis- decreases bone strength
  • Tendonitis- affects the tendons
  • Leukemia- affects bone marrow
  • & many more

Parts you can live without?
You cannot live without your skeletal system, but it is possible to live without some bones (in arms, hands, feet, legs)
