PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE SKIN

I am located on the outside of the human body.
I am usually the size of the person.
I am the shape of the person.

I am made of 3 layers:
epidermis: is waterproof, & creates skin tone
dermis: tough connected tissue, hair fossils & sweat glands
hypodermis deeper subcutaneous tissue is made of fat & connective tissue.
I can be tan, pale, & even a darker tan.

I help the body:
Controls body temp.
Keeps out infection
a waterproof barrier
Protects delicate tissues underneath
Mends itself to damages

I protect the body, from cuts and gashes.
I also cool the body. To reduce the body temperature, sweating occurs. Sweat is mostly water with salt. It's produced by the sweat glands & pours onto the surface of the skin. The water evaporates, which removes heat from the skin & cools the skin down.

I can get infections, bug bites, and rashes.
Some diseases I can have are vitiligo and it causes the skin to lose its natural color, and alopecia areata can make hair fall out. Some other diseases are like skin diseases like epidermolysis bullosa can cause painful blisters. Psoriasis can cause itchy, scaly red patches.

Call or contact a doctor immediately if you have some of these symptoms. He/She may give you a cream or pills to help with these symptoms.

Keep your skin clean wash it a few times a week. To much sun is bad for it. No tanning beds the ultra violet light damages skin. Get plenty of physical activity. Eat healthy, veggies, fruit, dairy and meats help. Last but not least plenty of sleep.
