JURY TRIAL

  • Can't be deprived of trial
  • They must do this to be constitutional
  • No punishments
3.

KILLING SLAVES

  • Killing a slave is the same as killing another white man
  • Punishment: prison for white man who kills slave
  • Reason protect slaves
4.

SLAVE WITNESSES

  • Slave can't witness in trial unless against another slave
  • Reason: keep slaves out of courts
5.

SLAVE LEAVING

  • If a slave is caught off his owners land without a written note they are sent to court immediately
  • Punishment: court and up to 20 whippings
  • Reason: prevent slaves from running away
