Cause of slavery
Early records show that slaves were use thousands of years ago in places like ancient Egypt. And then the ancient Greeks used slaves as household servants.in Mexico and South America, Spanish conquistadors enslaved the American Indians who lived there.

Effect of slavery
American Indians were enslaved by the British colonists in North America too. But for a number of reasons, the colonists came to prefer African slaves. By the end of the 18th century, the enslavement of the American Indians ended. Then the African slave trade sent millions of unfortunate people to America. By the early 1600s, countries relied on slaves for their cotton and indigo. Slaves also lost their families and hope.

The Need Of Slaves...
The northern states became more industrials, so they eventually needed less slave labour. In Africa, merchants would exchange European goods for slaves. Then the slaves would be exported to America, where they would prepare raw materials like sugar and timber for their masters.l

The solution
Lincoln then passed in the 13th amendment which abolished slavery. It was illegal to have a slave working for you. It was passed out on January 3, 1865. Slaves were already in America and started a new life there. They could have the things they didn't have before, such as freedom.
