  • Quabna Cuggano was born in 1757 in Ghana
  • He was kidnapped in 1770
  • 1st African to fight against slavery

  • Olaudah was born in 1745
  • He wrote an autobiography
  • He bought his freedom in 1766

AUCTION AND SALE

  • Mary Prince was born in 1788
  • In 1828 she was enslaved
  • She wrote an autobiography about her life to make it public

WORK ON PLANTATIONS

  • The passage was about the work songs
  • The work songs provided an outlet for slaves
  • It synchronized their work
  • It let them go back to their old culture

PUNISHMENT

  • Owners tell the overseers and whip the bad slaves
  • They still whip pregnant women but just don't hurt the babies because they sent the babies for slaves
  • Owners can punish the slaves however they want they can do anything to the slaves

SUFFERING

  • Henry Bibb was born in 1815
  • He was the son of the state senator James Bibb
  • His mother was Mildred Jackson who was enslaved to a plantation owner

RESISTANCE

  • Sojourner Truth was born in 1797
  • She started the resistance saying that black women should be treated the same way as white women
  • She also said the women should be treated the way that men should

ESCAPE

  • Harriet Jacobs was born in 1813
  • When her mother died she was taken care of by other women
  • They taught her how to read and write
  • In 1842 she escaped by boat to the north.

FREEDOM

  • Lewis Clarke was born in 1812
  • When he escaped he could do whatever he wanted
  • He said when he got to free land that he was finally on free soil
