The owners took the good food

PUNISHMENT
Many people were whipped
Even pregnant women were whipped!
Had whips made of: raw hide,
Fibers from a jungle plant,
And they were put in stocks (look at background)
8.
SUFFERING
They had no/almost blood family
Not very many ways to stay happy
"But here in the light of these truth, I was a slave,
I could possess nothing, nor acquire anything,
But what must belong to master"

FREEDOM
When set free the slaves were overcome with deep emotion
The slaves felt as though part of themselves was given back to them
But once the feeling was gone they felt slightly confused of what to do next
Here is a quote by Lewis Garrad Clarke
"My hands, my feet were now my own, but what to do with them was the next question
