southern slave life

  • Children lived fairly easy lifes if the slave owner was wealthy
  • The parents hired teachers to teach the children how to read and write
  • Girls learnd how to manage a large household with many servants
  • Boys learnd how to run the plantation
  • Life was very diffirent in the back country

  • Africans were not treated as humans they were bought and sold as property
  • Every kid was forced to work 
  • The hard workers were not fed well
  • Many slave refused by working slowly as possible with out being punished
  • The houses were small and cramped

  • They created a community that was like a large familly
  • They looked to the bible for stories of inspiration
  • They rememberd their past by telling stories
  • They sang songs to help pass the time while working
  • They created a language out of african languages and English

  • The plantations were more like small villiages than farms
  • The masters house was usually surrounded by stabels and farms
  • People were not fed very well
