CITY-STATES

  • The first city-state is called Sumer
  • Sumer had two main places, the central city, and the rural farm land
  • People had to make large thick walls to protect their homeland from invaders.
  • Leaders would try to expand their territory by gaining more farmland.
  • The sumerians lived in 4000 B.C and their homeland was in mesopotamia.

THE GOVERMENT

  • The Mesopotamias created a goverment that was both, monarchy and decocracy.
  • The kingdoms of Sumer were organized into city-states for the gods.
  • The king was assisted in pleasing the gods.
  • The king was assisted by ,priests, scibes, and nobels.

CUNEIFORM

  • The cuneiform is the earliest writing in the world. It can be traced back to 8,000 BC and it developed from pictographs and other symbols.
  • The Sumerians originally made small tokens of clay to show what the item is.

SUMERIAN ACHIEVEMENTS

  • One of the achievements the Sumerians made was writing. This is the one of the most importants thing ever made.
  • Another Sumerian achievement is the wheel. The wheel is what people used for carts, cars, wagons, etc.
  • They also used these things called styluses to make symbols on clay tablets.
  • Another thing sumerians made was math. They split a year into 12 months and also made a circle 360 degrees.

TRADE

  • The sumerians traded stuff like wood, cloth, jewlery, oil,etc.
  • The wool they traded was mostly from sheep and goats.
  • One types of gems and jewelry they traded was lapis-lazuli
  • Mesopotamians traded stuff like barley, stone, pearls, copper, etc.
