Where do they live

  • Southern Albert
  • East to Nova Scotia in Canada
  • Extends south to the Gulf of Mexico and central Texas

How long do they live

  • Wild snapping turtles live up to 30 years

What kind of habitat do they need?

  • Live only in fresh water
  • They like water with muddy bottoms and lots of plants so they can hide easily
  • Their mostly in the water but go on land to lay their eggs

What eats them

  • Other large turtles
  • Raccoons
  • Skunks
  • Foxes
  • Bullfrogs
  • Watersnakes
  • Largemouth bass (fish)

What do they eat

  • Insects
  • Fish
  • Birds
  • Large amount of plants
  • They kill other turtles by biting off their heads because they have to protect their territory or because they are not doing as told
