INTERNATIONAL TRADE NETWORK

  • Merchants were honored.
  • They were a religious symbol to the people.
  • United diverse cultures.
  • They had about 750 to 1350 merchants create the network.

MANUFACTURED GOODS

  • They're organized by guilds.
  • Manufactured goods are highly valued.
  • Most goods came from other places.
  • Most labor was done by paid workers.
  • Manufactured goods were dependent on its quality.

AGRICULTURE THRIVES

  • Mainly outside the cities.
  • Both Umayyad and Abbasid wanted to preserve and spread the growth.
  • Massive irrigation projects.
  • They grew Cotton, Medicinal Herbs, Sugar Cane, and flowers for foreign markets.

SOCIAL STRUCTURE

  • They had slaves, and paid workers.
  • They had Social Mobility, the ability to move up in class.
  • A child born from a slave mother is considered Freeborn.
  • To break down the tribal system, they created a class of Turkish-Slave soldiers.

THE IMPACT!

  • Yes, Muslims developed the international trade network, and we still use it today.
  • We still trade with foreign countries by importing and exporting goods.
  • We still use a similar agricultural system to this day.
