WHAT IS SOCIAL ANXIETY?

  • Social anxiety is where an individual has an extreme fear of being scrutinized
  • ,judge or humiliated in public or during a performane situation
  • Confused that its shyness
  • Causes havoc in peoples lives

  • Some say it runs in family (genetics) but other dont know actually
  • What causes This disorder
  • It affects 15 millions
  • Affect typically age onset of 13 years old
  • People with anxiety dont report till after 10 years of symptoms

AFFECTS

  • Daily activities such as walking in public
  • Or giving a speech may stutter or feel nausea
  • Talking to make friends they try to avoid conversation
  • And as a romantic relatioship is out of the question

SYMPTOMS

  • Physical symptoms of social anxiety disorder may include blushing, profuse sweating, trembling
  • nausea or other abdominal distress, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness
  • lightheadedness, headaches, and feelings of detachment and loss of self-control
  • Stuttering blurry vision

TREATMENT

  • There are medication to take such as anit-anxiety pills
  • As well as anti-depressants have been used
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy
  • As an ot/ota we would use the cognitive behavorial therapy because
  • It is a frame of reference for us to access with the patients
