The nonprofit community on Google Plus is huge. From Hangouts to circles of all different types of nonprofit you can find quality discussions going on. The best part? You get the immediacy of Twitter and the great links but like Facebook discussion is threaded and easy t o follow.
Do a search on Pinterest for nonprofits and you find a wealth of information. Do more than just post a picture. Tell a story, give a call to action and then a link to DO something.
Doing searches to find where your constituents, potential donors and volunteers will show you which networks they use. If they are there you could be missing a vital opportunity to talk to them.
Today we use the internet for the majority of our research. If your nonprofit deals with critical issues you want people to find you. That's a whole lot easier if you leverage the search engine optimization of social to get found more easily.
Social does not have to be a time suck. You just need to focus, organize and know your goals for outreach in the first place. If you flail around trying to think of something to say and end up spending all day on Facebook? Then yeah, you're not going to have time.
