The Right and Wrong Way

to use Social Media
Before you press send and put content out for the world to see, know how to use Social Media sites like Facebook in the right way.

Untitled Slide

Before respond or create a post, it is important to THINK before you click. Would you say what you were typing in a Real interaction with this person? Is it appropriate for all others to see?

Remembering to Think before you click will help you establish a better social media presence. If you feel unsure about posting, take a minute to think if you are acting on an emotional whim. Come back later to the post after some thought. You may change your mind for the best and instead post positive content or something that would encourages and connect rather than upset or enrage.

The Wrong:

  • Fake News
  • Starting Arguments
  • Posting explicit content
Recall the THINK list before you post.

Social Media can get ugly when people use it as a platform to constantly complain, pick fights, or say mean, untrue and hateful information.

Don't put content out there that you would not want others to see.

What's on your mind?

Whats on your mind? A powerful question that we see every time we log into Facebook.

Keep in mind that what you type in that box and choose to post could also be some famous last words. Relationships with friends and loved ones have changed because of words put here.

Enjoy Social Media in a positive light and try to be kind about what you post.

Think before you add photos

Any photo you add to your Facebook, without specific privacy settings, can be seen by ALL your friends or the public. Embarrassing photos or photos that display inappropriate behavior can hurt your personal and professional reputation.
Keep in mind that what your best friends can see on Facebook, your boss may see too. Go back to my slides about privacy settings on social media regarding what you post.

Options on Comments:

  • Delete
  • Ignore
  • Reply
Whether it is your personal or business page, you mostly have three options on how to respond.

Delete it, Ignore It, or Reply to it.

Remember to try to:

always be nice and polite
always be humble
forget who you are and put yourself in the poster's shoes.
Imagine for a second that what the poster says is true, and think of a professional way to respond.
