The social security act was started to assure an elders insurance meaning tested welfare programs etc. Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed this act in 1935.

Before

Before
Elders without family's were left on the street to die because they weren't able too work or were retired and left homeless to die.

Great Depression impact

The reason why elders were left homeless is the Great Depression, leaving them with out money, food or shelter. that's why many elders were left to be in the care of family's and friends that weren't homeless.

After

Once the act was passed all elders gained pensions and welfare and the money to buy food and take care of themselves this act also served crippled children with a child welfare program. In the end families no longer needed to care for elders because of this act it gave elders a better way of living

After

This also enabled the several States to make more adequate provision for aged persons in general
