WHO IS WILLIAM GLASSER?

  • Born May 11,1925 in Ohio
  • Attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland
  • Earned a degree in psychiatric training
  • Became a chemical engineer at 19,Clinical Psychologist at 23, & a physician at 28
  • Devoted his life to teaching people about his beliefs, and working with schools

What is socioemotional climate?

Socioemotional climate originates in counseling and clinical psychology. Emphasis on building positive interpersonal relationships between students and teachers. (pg.184)

The Glasser Theory calls for teachers to instruct students on how to make good choices and take responsibility for their behavior. If followed, the Glasser Theory can make education a rewarding experience for students and teachers alike.

His theory states that teachers must stress student responsibility, establish rules,and be persistent.

In the classroom, for example, teachers can create a good bond with their students and be a good role model!
