Sock puppet facts!

• Sock puppets were used in elizabethan times to get around the tough laws concerning theatre and the arts. The socks were easy to transport and conceal from law enforcers!

• Many people believe that Sock puppets inspired the 'Punch and Judy' puppet shows that are popular even today.

• Some popular sock puppets include Lambchop and Kermit the frog who began as a green sock with googly eyes glued to the top!

the star wars saga

Initially what I wanted my show to be was a full scale production of the shakespearean version of 'Return of the Jedi' or as I have come to call it 'The Jedi Doth Return'.

I had almost a full cast lined up consisting mainly of friends from both within and outside of this class and I also recruited a few people from the community using social media website 'Reddit'. I had sketches done of costumes that I wanted to create and different ideas about props. For instance, I wanted to use hair dryers as guns and bubble wands as lightsabers. It was going to be hilarious, If i do say so myself.

I Intended to take inspiration from star wars parodies like 'Family Guy's' version and 'Spaceballs' rather than make it serious but alas, It was not to be...

Slowly but surely, one by one, people started dropping out of my group for various reasons. It's a big time commitment to be involved in a play for someone else benefit. I didn't know what to do and I was just about ready to drop the whole idea until someone lovely suggested that I just put on a puppet show!

Once I announced the change from full scale production to puppet show, I had some more people drop out. But it was okay because a few very reliable wonderful people stayed with me and are working very hard to make my production into something fabulous, albeit not what I had imagined in the first place.

So where am i going now?

My production team now consists of Myself, Helen, Spencer, Stevie and Joshua and they have been helpful beyond belief. These are the different elements that I am using to bring together my production...

• Simple set
• Simple puppets
• Complex costumes on the two narrators
• Complicated (although shortened) dialogue
• Bribery using foodstuffs

Issues that i am still experiencing

• Lack of time for rehearsals when everyone is available.
• Lack of money because of poorness.
• The procrastination is strong in this one.
• Relying on people to learn their lines and pronunciations of certain words.( shakespearean and star warsy)

• Cutting the script even further to prevent people from spending too much time watching a collection of my odd socks Speak to each other.
• Keeping certain people 'on task' during rehearsals.
• Maintaining a positive outlook.

To conclude my presentation I would like to give everyone an opportunity to have a quick look at a small excerpt of the film and compare it with a passage of my text. Then I will field questions if any of you have any.
