  • He died on 399 B.C.E in Athens, Greece by drinking posion.

Early Life

  • His family was not poor, but not very wealthy, they had moderate wealth.
  • He grew up in a political area, or district of Alopece.
  • In his youth, he had an appetite for learning.

Life in Ancient Greece

  • 4th century B.C. was considered the "Golden Age" era when art, music, poetry, philosophy, and politics flourished.
  • Athenian society was male dominate, only men from the upper class had a formal education
  • Women had few rights and were just expected to stay home with their children.
  • Greeks believed in many gods and were deeply religious people.
