PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Socratic dialogue is a genre of prose created in Greece in the 4th century BCE. Usually Socrates is the main character, and conversations revolve around moral and philosophical questions.
Conversations between Socrates and his students now serve as a model for instruction with the same title , "The Socratic method".
Characteristics of Socratic Method
- Small Class Groups
- Shared dialogue between teacher and students
- Teacher leads by providing a thought provoking question,
- Questioning is open-ended without defined goals.
- Both teacher and students may add to questioning of ideas and concepts.
Inquiry-based Learning allows youth to construct their own learning through using science process skills to
explore and gather evidence about phenomena in an investigative manner.
Learner has a need to know,
Learner gathers, organizes, interprets, analyzes, evaluates data
Learner clarifies understandings discovered,
Learner applies conclusions or generalizations to
Learners evaluate their own understanding,
Project Based Learning
- Fascilliated by teachers, who typically assign large projects that require students learn and apply new knowledge in order to demonstrate knowledge growth.
