• 2,400 year old philosophy about learning.
• Socrates realized lectures don't help everybody learn.
• He realized students learn better by speaking with one another.

HOT SEAT: this is the outer circle:
You will ALL participate after the conversation to improve our discussions.

The 5-8 people in the hot seat (outer circle) will answer...

• Who is adding to the conversation? What did they say that was memorable?
• Is everyone listening to one-another? How do you know?
• What are some things we need to work on?
• Did we answer all of the questions?
• What questions do we still have?

Leader:
This person leads the conversation, asks the questions, keeps everybody on topic.

Let's practice

We are going to have a discussion about reading.

Answer the four questions so you have ideas to add.

• What is the purpose of reading?
• What are some challenges with reading?
• What's the difference between studying and reading?
• Why should you study after reading, and what is a good study place?

During the discussion to earn points you must

• Use a respectful language frame. 
• Cite Evidence
• Paraphrase what another student is saying.
