SOIL CONSERVATION

CONSERVATION PLOWING

• Farmers try and disturb the soil as little as possible
• They leave dead plants in the soil to try and restore nutrients
• This method is also called low-till

CONTOUR PLOWING

• Farmers plow the fields along the curves of the feild
• This slows down runoff
• This also prevents the soil from washing away

CROP ROTATION

• Farmers plant different crops in the field each year
• Farmers use a plant that takes alot of nutrients
• And crops that dont take alot of nutrients

GRASSED WATERWAYS

• They are shallow canals
• The canals let runaff go down slopes with out causing erosion
• They should be 6M wide and 30CM deep
