O HORIZON
The "O" stands for organic matter.
It's the very first layer of soil.
It's made up of dried leaves and animal carcasses.
The O horizon contains humus.
Animals build there homes in the O horizon.

A HORIZON
The "A" horizon is referred to as topsoil.
Worm, spiders, and roots can be found here.
This layer is darker because of more decomposition.
This layer is very rough.
It's very rough from erosion, erosion caused it to loose fine minerals.

E HORIZON
The "E" is short for eluvaited.
This layer has been drain of clay, iron, and aluminum oxides
The "E" horizon is a lighter pale color.

"B" HORIZON
B horizon is sometimes called subsoil.
The B horizon will usually have stronger colors.
This layer contains mineral deposits.
It gets those from the layers above when the water drips down

It is sometimes called regolith.
It has some broken - up pieces of bedrock.
Plant roots don't penetrate into this layer.
There is very little organic matter in this layer.

This is unweathered rock.
This layer is beneath all the other layers .
