SOLAR POWER

O

HOW SOLAR POWER WORKS

  • When you have a solar panel, it collects the sun's radiance during the day.
  • As the panels collects the suns rays , they convert them into Direct Current (DC) electricity.
  • The DC power is then sent to an inverter which converts that power into Alternating Current (AC) electricity.
  • The AC is then fed to a wiring system where it will power lights, appliances, and other electricity.

HOW SOLAR POWER CAN BE USED AND EXAMPLES OF ITS CURRENT USE

  • One way solar power can be used is heating your home by using sun-heated tubes of water on your roof and pumping it into your water heater.
  • Another way is heating your swimming pool by just adding a solar blanket.
  • Example of current use: Harnessed to pump water in remote areas
  • Example of current use: Power TV and radio repeater stations
  • Example of current use: Generate electricity to your home.

EFFECTS SOLAR POWER HAS ON THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Generates electricity without toxic pollution
  • Lessens reliance on fossil fuels
  • No global warming discharge
  • Plants use it to produce the green chlorophyll

REASONS WHY SOLAR POWER IS NOT WIDELY ACCEPTED

  • Solar panels are expensive
  • Unwanted CO2 emissions are dumped into the atmosphere.
  • That translates into each typical home being responsible for 22,000 pounds of CO2 emissions.
  • Only last in the daylight
  • If there is bad weather for a long time, it will only provide little electricity.

PROS OF SOLAR POWER

  • Renewable
  • Abundant
  • Reduces electricity costs
  • Environmentally Friendly
  • Free

CONS OF SOLAR POWER

  • Can be expensive
  • Large area can be needed
  • Only generates electricity during daylight hours
  • Intermittent
  • Rare Materials
