SATELLITES

  • Placed in orbit around the earth, moon or another planet to collect data and communication
  • Have antennas that send and receive information to and from earth.
  • Distance from earth effects the strength of the signal and where it can transmit and receive.

TELESCOPES

  • Telescopes are instruments used to see far away objects of interest.
  • The basic idea is to collect a lot of light and enlarge it.
  • They ate classified as either reflector, refractor, or catadioptric.
  • (Based on weather they use mirrors and/or lenses to view object)
  • New planets, stars and celestial bodies have been found by using them.

PLANETS

  • Planets come in all shapes and sizes
  • Almost all planets have an atmosphere
  • Planets orbit the sun
  • There are several ways planets can be categorized
  • Planets have unique characteristics

ASTEROIDS

  • Though they may be small, asteroids are a threat to our Earth and the human race.
  • Asteroids come in all different shapes and sizes.
  • They have no atmospheres, but can be large enough to exert a gravitational pull
  • Almost all asteroids fall into three different classes based on how they were made.
  • Scientists are still exploring and evaluating asteroids today.
