With the death of Solomon's father , King David , Solomon beats his brother Adonijah out as King . God had promised to David that his son Solomon would rule after him.
One night as Solomon is asleep God comes to him in his dream . God told Solomon he would give him whatever he wanted . Solomon said he desired wisdom, this pleased God and he gave Solomon great wisdom.
During King Solomon's reign he was building a temple for God . It took him 20 years to complete this temple and in all it's structure it was about 20 stories or 207 feet . In this temple they would sacrifice animals to The Lord
After Solomon built the temple he built a palace to live in . It took him 13 years to build his home . This palace was made of cedar it also had many windows . In the palace he added a Hall of Judgement from which he ruled.
King Solomon assembled all his people for a feast. They sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted. The priests then took the Ark of the Covenant of The Lord and placed it in the Temple. Solomon then blessed The Lord and his people and dedicated the temple to The Lord. Solomon asked The Lord to bless all who prayed at the temple in His name.
When Solomon finished building the temple and everything else God appeared to him again. God told Solomon as long as he and his children obeyed God's commandment they would rule over Israel forever. If they turned from God then God would take Israel from them.
Solomon married many foreign women against God's wishes. Solomon built idols for his wives gods so they could make sacrifices to them. When Solomon got old his wives turned his heart from God. This made God mad but he said he would not take Israel from Solomon while he was alive out of respect for David.
King Solomon reigned for forty years. He had great wealth and wisdom during his life. God sent many men to fight against Solomon when he turned from God. When Solomon died he was buried in the city of David. God divided Israel between the ten tribes including Solomon's son so that David's family would continue to rule over a part of Israel.
