HOW SOLOMON GAINED WISDOM

  • The Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream while in Gibeon.
  • The Lord said, "Whatever you ask I shall give you." (1 Kings 3:5)
  • Solomon simply asked for wisdom in order to properly rule the people of God. (1 Kings 3:6)

1 Kings 3:6
Solomon answered: “You have shown great kindness to your servant, David my father, because he walked before you with fidelity, justice, and an upright heart; and you have continued this great kindness toward him today, giving him a son to sit upon his throne."

WHY WISDOM IS IMPORTANT

  • Wisdom is important to Solomon because this way he will properly rule the people of God, like those before him.
  • He believes that because he is a young man, he needs wisdom to be a great leader.
  • God is pleased with his response.

1 Kings 3:7
"Now, LORD, my God, you have made me, your servant, king to succeed David my father; but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act—"

HOW SOLOMON PROVED HE WAS WISE

  • Solomon's Listening Heart 1Kings 3:16-28
  • Solomon proved his wisdom when two women came to him both claiming to be the mother of the same child. He decided to cut the child and half and give to both women. He knew that the woman who surrendered the child to the other was the true mother.
