OVERPOPULATION

BY, BIAK SUNG

"THE HUMAN POPULATION IS NOW SO LARGE THAT THE AMOUNT OF RESOURCES NEEDED TO SUSTAIN IT EXCEEDS WHAT IS AVAILABLE AT CURRENT CONSUMPTION PATTERNS."

TO GET RID OF BOTH LEGAL AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

Our population is going to be growing in any case, largely because of immigrants who have arrived in the past few generations, but that growth could be limited to about 72 million persons (a 24.6% increase) if we effectively combat illegal immigration and pare back legal immigration to a moderate level.

TO REDUCE
THE AMOUNT OF WOMEN FROM HAVING CHILDREN

So many women across the world are now in their childbearing years 1.8 billion that the global population will keep growing for another few decades.

By 2050, the total number could reach 10.5 billion, or it could stop at eight billion the difference is about one child per woman.

UN demographers consider that the population may reach 10 billion before 2050 in 2045.

Naturally, individuals should also act responsibility to address these problems, and the motivation to do this would hopefully arise if the measures described above are put into place by the government.

The Total Fertility Rate of American women has been at or below the replacement level (2.1 children per female) for 4 decades. This means that if immigration were zero (immigration equal emigration), even below a few 100 thousand annually, the U.S. Population would stop growing in a matter of decades.

This is because it will encourage people to have more pride in their own community and improve the situation.

Overpopulation can lead to overcrowding and poor quality housing in a many large cities.

There are many solutions to this problem but the common factor is the human race. The human race has to put controls in place and take care of the environment, so required resources do not become extinct. Most of the environmental damage being seen in the last 50 odd years is because of the growing number of people on the planet.

Poorly hated or damp housing could cause significant health problems, resulting in illness, such as bronchitis or pneumonia.

In the 1970s, hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embark upon now.

Another serious consequence of over crowding is a rising crime rate as poor living conditions may lead young people in particular to take desperate measures and turn to crime or drugs.

"What keeps our population growing very rapidly is net immigration and unsustainably (legal and illegal combined) of between 1 and 2 million. Year after year."

If governments and individuals share a collective responsibility, then it would become possible to offer some solution.
