SONG DYNASTY

• Was an era of Chinese history that begun in 960 and continued until 1279
• It's first government issued bank notes or paper money.
• Was divided into two district periods: Northern song and Southern Song

After two decades of sporadic warfare, Kublai Khan armies conquered the Song Dynasty.

In the Northern Song it recorded roughly 50 million people.

During the Song Dynasty the spread of literature and knowledge was enhanced by the earlier invention of wood block printing.

Later the Southern Song discovered new ways to strengthen its economy and defend off the Jin Dynasty.

To protect and support the multitudes of ships sailing for maritime interests, the Southern Song established an official standing navy.
