THE HISTORY OF SONIC

  • SONIC was founded by a man named Troy Smith Sr. in 1953
  • The name of the first SONIC was "Top Hat Drive-in" and was located in Oklahoma
  • The "Top Hat Drive-in" was originally just a root beer stand
  • In 1959, the SONIC name was born and franchising began

  • Today, SONIC has over 3,500 drive-ins in 44 states
  • SONIC is nicknamed "America's Drive-in"
  • In one year, SONIC sells enough tots to circle the globe twice when placed end to end
