PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SOURCES OF ENERGY

SCIENCE - GRADE 10

WHAT IS A GOOD SOURCE

  • Which is easily accessable
  • Which is easy to store and transpot
  • Be economical

Conventional
Enery

FOSSIL FUELS

  • The industrial revolution made exploitation of fossil fuels possible..
  • This energy was used to make the world grow
  • But burning fossil fuels is not wnvironment friendly

HYDRO ELECTRICITY

  • This uses kinetic energy of flowing water to generate electricity
  • Dams and reservoirs constantly get refilled with water making it not a problem ...

THERMAL ELECTRICITY

  • Large amount of fossil fuels are burnt whose steam runs down turbines to produce electricity.
  • This converts heat energy to electric energy

NON CONVENTIAL ENERGY

SOLAR ENERGY

  • This captures the energy sun radiates and converts it into electricity.
  • Certain devices help absorb sun's heat and convert it for dialy use.
  • These are called solar panels.

ENERGY FROM SEA

  • Tides caused due to gravity are converted into electricity fixed at the openings of dams
  • A similar phenomenon occurs when capturing wave energy
  • The ocean's surface heats up due to the sun and this heat is used to produce ocean thermal energy

NUCLEAR ENERGY

  • A process called nuclear fission crates massive amount of energy
  • Nuclear energy is easy to produce and is very efficient
  • But the problem is in disposing the nuclear waste which is very hazardous.

GEOTHERMAL ENERHY

  • When molten rock are pushed upwards and come into contact..they generate steam which go through turbines to generate electricity.
  • This is cheap and efficient but there are not many sites of production.

ENVIRONMENTAL Consequences...?

  • Exploitation of resources disturbs the environment.
  • This includes either the process of exploitation or the construction of the equipment like in solar cells

HOW LONG WILL OUR ENERGY SOURCES LAST...?

  • Conventional sources get depleted
  • So it is important we ise inexhaustable sources of energy to ensure a bright future.
