Where did sourdough bread originate from ?

  • It originated from Switzerland
  • The bread is popular in the northern half of Europe
  • One of the oldest sourdough breads dates back to 3700 BCE
  • The origin of sourdough fermentation likely relates to the origin of agriculture in the Fertile Crescent several thousands years ago

How to prepare sourdough

  • Mix sourdough starter
  • Next mix flour and salt together with sourdough starter
  • Add one cup of water then more as needed to make moist bread dough
  • Knead dough until it passes the "window pane test"
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 30-60 minutes

''Window pane test'' for dough

  • It is one of the best ways to tell if you have kneaded your bread enough. It is basically lets you know how your gluten development is coming along. You can perform the test after five minutes of kneading especially when your bread dough is feeling stretchy.

  • The sourdough prevents the effects of phytic acid and makes the bread easier for us to digest
  • These phytic acid molecules bind with other minerals which are important nutrients that are unavailable to us
