AMAZON RAINFOREST

  • About 80% of the food we eat came from the rainforest
  • Home to more than half of the world's plant and animal species
  • The forest floor is almost completely dark because of the canopy
  • There are around 3000 kinds of fruits in the rainforest, we only use about 200

COUNTRIES OF THE AMAZON

  • Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador,
  • Colombia, Guyana, Bolivia,
  • Suriname, and French Guiana
  • Covers most of the amazon basin

CLIMATE AND VEGETATION

  • Gets about 9 ft. of rain every year
  • Tropical climate, hot and humid all year
  • Average temp is about 80 degrees F
  • Over 80,000 plant species

AMAZON RIVER

  • The source of the Amazon River is Lago Villafro
  • It is the second longest river in the World approx. 4000 M
  • Because it is so vast, it is sometimes called The River Sea
  • Anaconda snake is found in shallow waters in the Amazon Basin

  • Runs through the amazon basin

CLIMATE AND VEGETATION

  • Tropical climate, no dry season over 80" of rain every year
  • Brazilian water ivy, red amazon sword, and stargrass grow here
  • Floods once a year because if the snow melt in the Peruvian Andes

  • Almost two million sq. miles
  • Shaped by mostly erosion
  • Balsatic lava helped shape
