SOUTH CAROLINA COLONY

FOUNDERS

• In 1690 8 Lord Proprietors founded the South Carolina colony.
• They were all freinds with King Charles II of England.

REASONS FOR BEING FOUNDED

• Land was given to The 8 Propreitors as a gift from the King.
• They decided to sell the land as an investment too settlers.

PEOPLE IN THE COLONY

• White settlers came from England and found 30 Native tribes.
• They gave 150 acres to every freeman who came to the colony.

CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHY

• The winters were short and mild and summers where long and hot.
• During the long summers it was excellent for crops and the people made lots of money.

ECONOMY

• Most of the settlers were farmers and planted all kinds of crops.
• Some craftsmen came to the colony to start a buisness.

RELIGION

• John Locke politition and philosopher wrote the charter for the colony.
• The people felt the charter allowed them greater religious freedom.

POLITICS AND GOVERNMENT

• The Fundamental Constitution of Carolina was a system of laws.
• The real governing power was retained by England.
