THE GOBI DESERT

  • Located in northern China and southeast Mongolia
  • It's a prime area for finding dinosaur fossils
  • It covers approximately 500,000 square miles
  • A cold desert with frost and occasionally some snow on dunes

CHANG JIANG OR YANGTZE RIVER

  • It is the longest river in all of Asia
  • The name Chang Jiang means "long river"
  • The river has been a major trade route since ancient times
  • It flows for 3,900 miles from Tibet into the East China Sea

THE HIMALAYAS

  • Separates the plains of the Indian subcontinent and the Tibetan plateau
  • Home to the worlds highest mountain peaks including Mount Everest
  • Have over one hundred mountains exceeding 23,600 ft
  • The Himalaya mountains cross or are in six different countries

NORTH CHINA PLAIN

  • Is the largest alluvial plain of Eastern Asia
  • It merges with the Yangtze plain to the south
  • It covers approximately 158,100 square miles
  • Beijing, the national capital, is located on it

HUANG HE OR YELLOW RIVER

  • It starts in the Kunlun Mountains in western china
  • It winds eastward for 3,000 miles, empties into Yellow Sea
  • The sea and the river get their names from the yellow silt
  • It has caused many terrible floods for Chinese citizens

EAST CHINA SEA

  • A marginal sea east of china part of the Pacific Ocean
  • It covers approximately 482,000 square miles
  • The Chang Jiang river empties into the sea
  • It is surrounded by many Japanese islands to the east
