OFFSPRING

  • Average number of young is 3-4 can get up to 7
  • Newborn- hairless, eyes & ears closed,weigh a quarter ounce
  • Eyes open at 4 weeks

  • 2 breeding seasons: fedrurary- march and late may- july
  • Sexually mature after one year

  • Located throughout state
  • Live in a 1-5 acre area per sqiurrel

  • Cavities in trees
  • Old woodpecker homes
  • Dead or live trees

FOOD AND WATER

  • Omnivores
  • Eats seeds, fruits, mushrooms, nuts, bark
  • Eats at night
  • Water comes from food or tree cavities
  • Will also go to streams and other water sources

SURVIVAL INSTINCTS

  • They are nocturnal, don't hibernate
  • In winter they group up for extra warmth

PREDITORS

  • Parasites, like fleas,lice, mites, and internal parasites
  • Owls, cats, hawks, snakes, bobcats, raccoons,
  • Weasles, and foxes
