DEAD SEA

  • Salt lake bordering Jordan to the east
  • The surface and shores of Dead Sea are 1,388 ft below sea level
  • 377 m (1,237 ft) deep
  • people can easily float in the Dead Sea due to natural buoyancy

RUB AL-KHALI

  • largest sand desert in the world
  • The desert is 620 mi long, and 310 mi wide
  • The sand is a reddish-orange color due to the feldspar
  • Temperatures average at 117 °F and can reach to 133 °F

RED SEA

  • A seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean
  • About 1398 mi long and at its widest point 220.6 mi
  • Depth of 7254 ft in the central median trench
  • The habitat of over 1,000 species & 200 corals

MEDITERRANEAN SEA

  • Is a sea connected to the Atlantic Ocean
  • Covers an area of 1,042,000 miles2
  • receives inflow of few rivers because mountain ranges by it
  • scarce inflow with high evaporation makes it much saltier

CASPIAN SEA

  • largest enclosed inland body of water on Earth
  • 1,030 km long & 435 km to a minimum of 196 km wide
  • Approximately 130 large and small rivers flow into it
  • Is about ninety feet below sea level

TAURUS MOUNTAINS

  • Mountain complex in southern Turkey
  • extending about 350 mi parallel to the Mediterranean coast
  • It rises to12,251 ft
  • It has important chromium deposits and other minerals
