  • Missions were made to spread Christianity to Native Americans to establish control.
  • These were successful for the Spanish.

  • Presidios are fortresses built by spanish to protect against Native Americans attacks.
  • These were again succsessful for spanish

settlements

  • settlements were where people would settle down.
  • San Antonio was the biggest settlement.
  • San Antonio had the most evidence of missions; the most famous is the Alamo.

MEXICAN WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

  • The war for Mexico Independence weekend Spanish control of Texas
  • There were battles between Royalists and Insurgents.
  • When Texas came to the attention of America, some whom claim that Texas was part of the Louisiana purchase

  • While pirates occupied Galveston Island and fortune seekers, smugglers and revolutionaries invaded Texas

  • The whole Spanish Colonial Era was about control and power and for Mexico to get their independence and bring Texas with them!
