  • Chilean journalist and author born on august 2 1942 in lima peru
  • Best known novels are The House of the Spirits and City of the Beast
  • Best known for magic realism style writing

  • Niece and Goddaughter of salvador allende former president of chile
  • Several months after her uncle's assassination she sought refuge in Venezuela
  • Wrote her first novel House of the Spirits

Bernardo O'Higgins

  • Born either August 20 1776 or 1778
  • illegitimate son ambrosio O'Higgins who became govenor of of Chile and later Viceroy
  • 1808 napolean attacked spain but left chile largely uncontrolled

  • Within months rose to general in chief of the independentist forces
  • Lost to Spain in the first fight but came back with more troops and freed Chiles

Gabriela Mistral

  • Born Lucila godoy Alcaya on april 6 1889 at vicuna
  • Visited almost every major European country as an ambassador
  • Awarded title teacher of the nation in Chile
  • Won a Nobel prize for her literature
