The ancient Athenians mainly worshipped Athena
She was the goddess of wisdom
Became the top trading power of the Mediterranean due to coastal location

Oligarchy but had elements of monarchy, democracy, and aristocracy
Had 2 rulers at a time who both ruled until they died and then passed the crown to a son
They were accompanied by 5 annually elected Ephors who together had the power to overrule the kings
Spartan equivalent of senate was called a "gerousia"
Voted by screaming out "yes" or "no"

ATHENIAN GOVERNMENT
Limited Democracy
Had an annually elected leader and was the birthplace of democracy
Their assembly was known as the "ekklesia" and all kinds of matters were discussed in there
Out of the 5000-6000 men, 500 were chosen and divided into groups of 50 who each ruled for about a month
The 500 men were chosen by a method of lot voting and 10 generals went with each group
