Kronos and RHea

  • Ate his children (Greek Gods)
  • Rhea tricked Kronos

The Story Behind

  • Kronos ate his own children
  • Rhea sent Zeus to Crete
  • Was raised secretly
  • Old enough to attack Kronos
  • Olympians emerged from his stomach

The Olympians

  • Were believed to live on Mount Olympus
  • There were 6 Olympians
  • Were the rulers of the universe

Zeus

  • Leader/ruler of the Olympians
  • God of the sky and rain
  • Symbol is a thunderbolt

POSEIDEN

  • Protector of the seas
  • God of the sea
  • Symbol is a trident

Hades

  • Ruler of the Underworld
  • God of the dead and of wealth
  • Has a helmet that makes him invisible

Hera

  • Goddes of marriage and childbirth
  • Wife of Zeus
  • Peacocks and cows are her sacred animals

Hestia

  • Goddess of hearth (home)
  • Most calm out of all gods
  • Fires in hearths were dedicated to her

DEMETER

  • Goddess of harvest
  • Associated with the four seasons

Aphrodite

  • Goddess of love, desire and beauty
  • The swan and dove represent her
  • Born from Kronos

  • Considered a coward

Athena

  • Fierce in battle
  • The owl is her sacred animal

Hermes
