SPERM WHALE

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

• The sperm whale weighs 35-40 tons
• A male is normally 49-60 ft before whaling started they were bigger
• They live normally live 60-70 years
• The female is normally 37-43 ft
• They are toothed and the scientific name is Physeter Macrocephalus

HABITS

• Sperm whales eat squid and deep sea fish
• Sperm whales are very social
• They communicate by using clicks which they can also use for echolocation

ENVIRONMENT

• They live in every ocean
• The males migrate to high altitudes while the females stay in tropical or subtropical with their calves
• When it is time the males migrate down to the females and calves
• Breeding is slow because whalers hunted them till they were endangered

• They have the biggest brain of any animal
