WHEN?

  • By mid-7th century AD the rise of Islam closed off the overland caravan
  • routes through Egypt and the Suez, and sundered the European
  • trade community from Axum and India.
  • A few hundred years ago, the rich people wanted spices.
  • Spices did not grow in Europe, so they had to be brought from Asia.

WHERE?

  • These trade routes were through Europe and Asia.
  • Then they started going around the other side of the earth,
  • And that is ways that they discovered the Western Hemisphere.

WHAT WAS THIS FOR?

  • This route was to trade spices
  • And to help exploration of colonies.
  • Most of these trade routes were very
  • Dangerous and deadly.

WHY DID THEY CHOOSE THIS ROUTE

  • They choose this route because
  • They wanted to pick the most simple
  • Route to Asia and back.
  • Also we did not have motorized vehicles
  • To get there and back quick enough.
