DESCRIPTION OF THE SPOTTED GAR

• Grow up to three ft long and weigh up to eight pounds
• Upper body brown to olive they have silver white sides
• A broad dark stripe is found on the immature fish
• Long snout like mouth is lined with strong, sharp teeth
• Have thick diamond shaped scales

HABITAT AND HABITS

• It prefer clear quite vegetated streams, swamps an lakes
• Often basks on the surface of the water on warm days
• Eats insects larvae, and crustaceans
• Has a special bladder that allows them to gulp air
• And live in poor oxygenated waters
