• Grew what they could
• Only grew for themselves

MIDDLE COLONIES

• Most prosperous of all the colonies
• Often called the "breadbasket"
• Sold off the extra to other Colonies and Europe
• We grow wheat, barley, oats, rye, and corn.

SOUTHERN COLONIES

• The main crop was tobacco
• Sold it for profit
• Main source of economy

• Gentry
• Middling
• Farmers
• Free blacks
• Slaves

FARMING TOOLS

• We didn't have machines like they do today
• Relied on manpower and animalpower
• Used common farming tools
